Happy Fall Members! I hope you had an adventurous summer and now
are ready for the best time of year to /Get Out There/ to enjoy New
England at its finest. Our chapter has a lot of exciting events
planned for you and hope to see you on the trails, bike paths, rivers
and lakes. We are also offering some special events such as
geocaching, trails day at Mt. Wachusett, camping in Vermont, CPR/First
Aid, Photography hikes, and the family fun weekend at Noble View.
Hope to see you there!
Summer goes by so fast and now kids are back in school but we made
a difference in the lives of many youth. Our chapter ran its first
families adventure camp this summer where families met weekly for
events in the Worcester county areas. Kids ages 6+ did rock climbing,
climbed Mt. Monadnock, camped at Tully Lake, canoed at Hopkinton State
Park, Overnights at Lonesome Lake hut, hiked various state parks and
biked along the local bike trails. Summer ended with a bang of pool
parties, fun and games. Please join us again next year and thanks to
all who participated. Keep updated with our monthly events including
the ?walk in the park? series, which focuses on family fun but all are
welcome. Our goal is to make sure /No child is left inside/. We have
a Chapter Youth Program, which provides free outdoor leadership to
youth agencies. Let us help you get children outside doing fun
activities. Families ? join us for the annual Mass Outdoor Expo for
families in Sturbridge Sept. 30 www.fawnsociety.com[1].
Thanks to all who attended our potlucks, cookouts, socials and
volleyball this summer. We offered many opportunities for members to
get together socially as well as with our activities of hiking the Mid
State Trail, bike rides and weekly free volleyball events. Special
thanks to EMS Marlboro for providing free kayaks Wed. night for our
paddle party and BBQ. It was a beautiful night for an end of summer
bash. And that it was!
We are in need of a Webmaster this fall for a one-year commitment.
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated member to volunteer a few hours
a week maintaining our amcworcester.org web page and to serve on the
Executive Committee. This is a great experience for technology savvy
members and a good resume booster to be the Webmaster for the AMC.
Please consider joining our dynamic team and volunteering your skills
to our chapter. Contact barbaradyer at hotmail.com[2] for more info.
On a personal note, I enjoyed this month camping in the Berkshires,
exploring the beautiful Adirondacks, hiking in the Whites and enjoyed
visiting with all our Worcester Chapter families who were involved in
the Family Adventure Camp. I look forward to seeing those attending
our Noble View weekend, which is near the beautiful Berkshires on Sept
29th. It?s Fair season now, apple-picking time, and I?m sure I?ll
see you at the upcoming Eastern States Exposition (The Big E). There
is nowhere like New England in the fall so enjoy and happy hiking!
Happy Trails,
Barbara Dyer/Chapter Chair
