Happy Summer!

It?s time to celebrate and ?get out there? on the trails this weekend
to honor National Trails Day. We will be working hard and need your
help in joining our chapter at Mt. Wachusett. Experience is not
necessary so come join the fun and bring a friend for the work party.
All are welcome and encouraged to give back to our trails we love to
play on. We hope to see you there! See our listings below to register.

Our parks are in crisis and we need your help members! Please
consider purchasing a Mass. Parks Pass. Cost is $35 for state
residents and are good now through Dec. 31. They can be used at ocean
beaches, swimming ponds, mountain summits, and sites such as Salisbury
Beach State Reservation, Wachusett Mountain, Hopkinton State Park,
Walden Pond Reservation, and Mount Greylock State Reservation. To buy
one by phone, call 617-626-4969. For more information and other
purchasing methods go to http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parkspass.htm.

Volunteers needed for the Partners in Parks Conference at Worcester
Technical High School on June 9 to represent our chapter and show our
support for our state parks. Please consider volunteering at our AMC
table. Nobody has yet offered to volunteer and this is an important
function right in our own back yard. Can you spare a few hours, as we
need somebody to step up to the plate for this major event. Please
help! For more information visit
http://www.conservationandrecreationcampaign.org.

Our executive committee is proud to announce that our chapter will be
providing a grant from our endowment fund for the building of two
shelters on the newly acquired Maine Woods to show our support for the
mission of the MWI. Please join us in that support and consider
contributing to the fund or building shelter and trails in Maine. To
take a virtual tour of the MWI or donate with confidence online as you
are on a secure server visit
http://www.outdoors.org/donations/mwi/index.cfm.

There were several great events this month including the Noble View
Chapters Retreat, Tuckermans Ravine trip, and our the Worcester
Chapter Spring Picnic at Hopkinton State Park. Thanks to the many who
assisted with the spring picnic. It was a huge success despite the
damp conditions. A variety of fun events for all. Next year we
promise better weather! Check out our pictures online at
http://www.amcworcester.org/pix/index.htm.

The Noble View weekend was a weekend full of fun in the sun up on a
mountaintop overlooking Pioneer Valley in Western Mass. We enjoyed
organized hikes, conservation work, campfires, and plenty of
socializing amongst families and friends. If you missed this
opportunity consider planning ahead for the August 3 weekend for some
more families fun at this spectacular location. Only $25/pp for the
weekend to stay in the newly renovated lodge in private rooms. Reply
if interested. For August only consider a weeknight stay for only $7
pp for first time visitors. Visit the Noble View website for more
information. http://www.outdoors.org/lodging/cabins/camps-noble.cfm.

Congratulations to our ?Volunteer Of The Month?, Pat Lambert, for her
efforts in leadership, for always contributing to the chapter whenever
needed, and for leading events at Echo Lake this summer. Thanks Pat
for all you do for our chapter! Other nominees are Jerry Burke, Deb
Phaup, and Dave Laska. Please consider honoring a member who supports
our mission. Send nominations to barbaradyer at hotmail.com.

Summer volleyball is being organized on Thursday nights from 6-9 in
Southboro. We need a few more players so come on out and enjoy some
fun in the sand. All levels of players and friends welcome. Starts
June 14. See below for registration info.

The Midstate trail invites you to join in on their weekly hike series.
Our chapter provided a grant to support the mission of the MST by
helping finance the cost of appraisals for the 109 acre Schenck Farm
in Westminster, Mass. The Midstate Trail runs through the farm for
1/3rd mile. To learn more about the Midstate trail visit
http://www.amcworcester.org/midstatetrail.htm.

Our executive committee and the AMC conservation team also approved
funding for the Breakneck Hill grasslands restoration project in
Southboro. To learn more about the property many AMC members love to
hike visit http://www.southborobelties.org.

The Chapter Youth Program (CYP) is moving forward nicely with several
from our chapter completing the leadership requirements. The
Worcester CYP is open and ready for business to partner with local
youth agencies. Our chapter has trained leaders willing to volunteer
to lead hikes and other outside events including conservation work,
rock climbing, skills classes such as map and compass, how to
backpack, snowshoe, organize outdoor leaders, and much more. We need
more trained leaders to get involved so please consider being part of
this AMC sponsored program and provide us any youth agency referrals
so we can have ?no child left inside?! Now is the time to plan events
for the fall and winter so if interested in learning more about how we
can work together to promote the great outdoors to our youth, contact
Deb Phaup at 978-988-0640 or dphaup at verizon.net.

Please consider joining us as a leader, volunteer, or at our meetings.
We are always looking for members to assist our chapter. It?s
usually the minority of members who do the majority of the
volunteering. Help us to improve our chapter and support our mission.
There are several current openings on our executive board for skiing
and paddling chair. Over the summer we will be posting any available
positions. We need you! Anyone, Anyone?? Thanks to all our leaders
and volunteers for your continued efforts. Keep up the good work!
Without your dedicated service, we would not have such an extensive
listings of exciting events.

This month we have a lot planned between local walks and rides,
upcountry hikes, mountain classroom trip for the Ayer Middle School,
volleyball, Tully Lake camping, canoe camping and paddle trips, urban
park cleanups, dog walks, nature photography, map and compass class,
socials, Cape trip, and the 12th annual summer solstice hike. Visit
our web page often for updates and see why we get 90k hits per month
and recently over 100 new members over the last two months. Welcome
new members! Please consider joining us for some of the upcoming
events. http://www.amcworcester.org
