   Hi Folks - Below are the remaining events for this month and some  
advanced notices.  Join the fun this Memorial Weekend and plan for the  
summer!

   Please send me your "Volunteer Of The Month" nominees with a brief  
paragraph describing how a Worcester chapter member follows the  
mission of the AMC of conservation, education and recreation and  
exemplifies leadership.  The volunteer will be selected at our  
upcoming chapter meeting next Wednesday and will be given a chance to  
win a free weekend at any AMC destination.  We need your votes,  
however executive committee members are not eligible to be nominated.

   All are welcome to attend the monthly chapter meeting next Wed. and  
learn more about volunteering or how our chapter works behind the  
scenes planning events for our members.  Free dinner too!

   Summer volleyball league forming - Please reply if interested so I  
can get an accurate head count.  (see below for info.) Free!

   Partners in Parks Conference is June 9 in Worcester- Volunteers  
needed to work at our AMC table.  Please consider giving back to our  
parks and chapter.  Reply if interested. Visit

   Special thanks to all who attended our spring picnic last rainy  
weekend.  Despite poor weather conditions, we still had a huge crowd.   
Special appreciation goes to our picnic committee:  /Mary MacDonald,  
Steve Ciras, Deb Herlihy, Pat Lambert, Jean McInerney, John Gau, John  
Grote, Tia Koziak, Nomi Monroe, Michele Simoreau,  
leaders/greeters, and organizer Sharon Foster./  We had some great  
prizes donated from Landry's, EMS, Bicycle Alley, Barneys Bicyclues,  
Great Canadian Canoe, LL Bean, Ne Backpacker and the AMC.  Great job  
all!

   MAY EVENTS:

   SAT., MAY 26. ASHUELOT COVERED BRIDGE BIKE TOUR. Biking. Status:  
Open. (Beginner/Interm) Pedal through 6 historic covered bridges in  
the shadow of Mt Monadnock, starting in Swanzey, NH just south of  
Keene. You qualify for this ride if you've done at least a 20-mile  
ride recently. The tour is about 34 miles of mostly flat, 12-15 mph  
take-time-to-smell the flowers riding. Bring water, spare tube, and  
camera (optional). Bring lunch or buy at halfway point. Ride starts  
from Monadnock Regional High School parking lot at 10:30am. Rain date

   SUN., MAY 27. VERY BEGINNER HIKES. Status: Open. Second in a series  
of monthly very beginner hikes, meet at Mt Wachusett visitor  
information at 10:00. Princeton, MA. Wachusett is the highest mountain  
in Massachusetts east of the Connecticut River and stands some 2,006  
feet above sea level at its peak. Our panoramic summit views include  
sights of Boston to the east. We will take a very easy trail to the  
top, stop often as needed, and have lunch at picnic table at the top  
of Mt Wachusett. Bring/wear hiking boots or high top sneakers, water  
and snacks. Please confirm your attendance no later than Wednesday May  
23, 2007. Limited to 15 people so reserve early. No registration

   TUE., MAY 29. HOLDEN/JEFFERSON RIDE. Biking. 6pm start. Status:  
Open. La Bussola, Holden. 1 Princton Rd./Rte 122A (north of W.R.H.S.

   WED., MAY 30. WR CHAPTER MEETING-LAST WED. OF THE MONTH. Status:  
Open. Join the Worcester Chapter Team of volunteers for a planning  
session for the chapter initiatives. New members especially welcome to  
get involved. Volunteers and leaders are always needed. If you would  
like to learn more about how you can volunteer for the largest  
regional conservation, education and recreation organization, please  
join us for dinner and our monthly meetings every last Wed. of the

   ADVANCED NOTICE:

   SAT., JUNE 2. NATIONAL TRAILS DAY AT WACHUSETT MOUNTAIN. Status:  
Open. Join the Worcester AMC Chapter in a day of trail maintaining  
projects. No experience necessary. Tools supplied. Bring water,  
packable lunch/snacks, work gloves, and wear sturdy boots and clothing

   SAT., JUNE 2. NATIONAL TRAILS DAY ON THE PINE HILL TRAIL. Status:  
Open. Reconstruction on Pine Hill Trail. Join along in setting rock  
steps, building rock structures for drainage and waterbars and setting  
scree walls for trail definition. Join experienced leaders to learn  
the fundamentals of safely moving rock, trail stabilization and  
treadway protection. Tools and training available, bring lunch, water,

   THU., JUNE 7-AUGUST 30. SUMMER VOLLEYBALL. Status: Open. Join the  
Worcester Chapter members for co-ed recreational adult volleyball.  
Drop in every Thursday night from 6-9 on an outside sand court in  
Southboro during June, July, August. New and prospective members  
welcome. Open to all levels. Must register in advance weekly with

   SAT-SUN., JUNE 9-10., LOW IMPACT CANOE CAMPING. Status: Open. Two  
days paddling with an overnight on an island. No registration

   SAT., JUNE 9. MAP AND COMPASS SKILLS. Status: Open. Map and Compass  
- 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM - Classroom and Field work on learning map and  
compass skills. During the morning, we will review map reading and how  
a compass works and how to use the map and compass together. During  
the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to use your skills  
locally at Treasure Valley Boy Scout Camp in Paxton. Bring your own

   SAT., JUNE 23. #2 URBAN PARK CLEANUP SERIES. Status: Open. *** NEW  
DATE *** June 23 (was May 26). Adopt-A-City-Park Series Morning  
Fun/Work time in Worcester. Volunteers needed to help "clean up our  
own backyard." Tools and protective gloves supplied. Worcester-area  
park TBD. Dress for weather. Optional lunch social after. For further

   FRI-SUN., JUNE 29-JULY 1. TULLY LAKE CAMPGROUND. Status: Open.  
Canoe the Tully River or island hop on Tully Lake. Fishing and  
swimming abound. Explore miles of hiking ormountain biking trails,  
including jaunts to nearbywaterfalls and scenic overlooks. Tully Lake  
Campground(located about 1 ½ hrs from Worcester), offers  
walk-in,tents-only campsites in a wilderness-like setting, mostsites  
on the lake. Centrally located modern bathhouse withtoilets, hot  
showers, and drinking water. Canoe and kayakrentals available. $25 per  
adult, $15 per child under 12,for the whole weekend. Includes 2

campfires, fun fun fun! $25 per person includes Fri & Sat lodging in  
fabulous renovated cottage with bedrooms, kitchen facilities, wood  
stoves, living rooms and plenty of space, or in historic farmhouse;  
tenting $15/person. No potable water; outhouses. Food NOT included;  
Sat potluck recommended. New members especially welcome. Limited space
